Intermezzo: Lilly in London

Wow!
When Lilly arrived in London with her balloon, it was getting dark already. She immediately donned her rain coat from her little suitcase and fixed her umbrella. In front of her some really strange people were walking up and down and Lilly could not really understand why they would have such big heads! They surely wore such big fluffy hats to keep them warm. That must be it! Carefully, she started to walk along the way, always ready to jump out of it, when other humans crossed her path. Couldn’t they watch their steps?? And SPLASH! Somebody stepped into a puddle right next to her! She quickly climbed the next hill and had a little talk with some people on top of it. They held cameras in their hands and from them she learnt that she was standing in front of Buckingham Palace! Wow!

Next morning she already felt restless and weird to be in the city alone. The nice weather from the day before was gone and it was cold and wet and grey. With a borrowed penny she called home.

Of course I rushed to her aid and soon after her call we met at “South Kensington” station and I hugged her, happy to have her back. Being Lilly, she couldn't keep her feet still for a moment and grabbed my hand and wanted to show me some things she had discovered, (Big Ben and the Parliament and Big Ben… ;)) for example London Eye. She really wanted to have a ride but unfortunately we didn’t have time, because we had a plane to catch!

Shortly before we took the train towards the airport, Lilly had me stop at a souvenir shop. She wished to write a post card and we sent it off together. Maybe the addressee will show himself/herself someday :)

Woche 4

Harrison

Harrsion bravely romps through the snow after the rest of his climb (that you can see here). After ascending up the cliff he has no choice but to cross the snow fields to get back home. Slowly his feet get colder and colder but he keeps heading forward without hesitation. Hot tea at home will make all the difference. Thinking about the envelope in his pocket, he hurries on.

Tidy
It was "world cuddle up day" this week and that was the reason Tidy was sneaking up to our cat for every occasion. The best moment was when the cat was sleeping so that Tidy could get up nice and close and cuddle him without him running away!

Tony

Actually I wanted to break up the old christmas tree with a saw, but when I came back, Tony had solved the problem in his own way.

Zach

I had been planning for a long time to build a new computer for my photo studio. It started when all ... arrived. Surely you can't even imagine how enthusiatic Zach was about this action. He posed in front of the boxes and sent the pictures to his friends on Little Planet. I think he did this because of the scull printed of the box of the mainboard. :D Nice to see, he is a "nerd" like me.

John

And what hides beneath,

I don't want to,

It's time to justify your pride. (Alexisonfire - Sons Of Privilege)

Nio

Turning some controllers here, plug in the cable and there it is - the good sound! Nio is a big fan of loud rock music, I think that comes from his life here with us! That's why he is allowed to come along to the practice of the band "Skillfear" sometimes and helps with the technical things. Especially the guitars seem to be interesting for him...

Lilly

…here I was… Lilly was gone and I had absolutely no idea, where the winds could have sent her. Was CTL finished before it even really started for me? Would I only have three pictures? And most importantly, what would become of Lilly?? I just couldn’t leave her to her fate, what ever it might be! Fortunately she helped me find her. Some days later the telephone rang and I was speechless! Lilly was on the phone and kindly asked to be picked up. When I asked her in return where she was… well, have a look at my photo… there was the Parliament and Big Ben and the Parliament and Big Ben and… :D
When we got home, she promised that she would never again just leave and would let me know where she would be going… or flying. This thing with the travel around the world was forgotten real fast, though. But I have to be careful, what I read to her in the future, I think… Who knows, what may happen!?

Und nächste Woche geht es weiter!

And next week we'll continue this!

That Lilly would be such a bookworm... I would never have guessed it! But when I left her alone one day she literally dug through every book I have on my shelves and when I finally came home I found her already standing on the ladder, waving to me. She had built a balloon and before I could even cry “STOP!” she took off. The little dot in the sky, Lilly and her balloon, became smaller and smaller still and I ran into the house. Inside I stumbled over open books, lying on the floor. In one of the books I saw a drawing that immediately cought my attention because it was a drawing of a hot-air balloon! Closing the book, uneasiness already fluttering in my stomach, I read the title “Jules Verne – Around the World in Eighty Days” and the book fell to the floor…

You know, Nio was skiing this week and I want to show you another picture of this day and tell you about how it was made.

Unfortunately winter didn't give us very nice snow weather, most time you sit in the office when sun appears outside and when work is finished the best light is gone allready. So I used an external flash for the pictures with Nio and this made me learn, what problems can come up with the combination of snow and flashlight:

When the figure was perfectly lit, the snow reflected and outshined. With longer exposure and decreased flashlight, the scene looked nightly and the shadows were to hard. If I changed the perspective, the snow lost his structure. Also the light should look like sun is shining from above and not like flood light from lower positions.

After some movements the light was ok for me and after Nio and his stuff got stuck and lost in the snow a few times, even one ski broke to pieces, I decided to end this trip and add the atmosphere with photoshop. I want to show you the second picture of this session.
I hope you like it!

Eure Claudia / Cassigrafie

Greetings from Nio, who has survived this whole adventure unhurt and the two of us warmed up comfortable at home! :)
Yours sincerely Claudia / Cassigrafie

Tony

Tony saß vier lange Wochen beim deutschen Zoll fest. Wahrscheinlich wegen seiner HighTech Prothese. :)
Angered by the long journey, one more smartphone was destroyed. Tony was stuck at the German Custom Department for four weeks. Probably because of the high-tech prothesis. :)

Lilly

This week, Lilly wanted to fly high! What happend and how she got there in the first place will be revealed during the week.

John

Nobody wants a war like this.

Stolen like a foreign soul.
What a way to go.
Suffocate your own empire.
 It's your final hour.

Tidy

There was snow, finally everything is dusted in white powder and a pleasant quite aura sank over town. I love winter and snow in a special place of my heart. The right beginning for a day off and after breakfast we headed out into the snow. We had incredible amounts of fun engaged into a snowball fight and Tidy flung himself into the white wonderland to create a snow angel!

Nio

Finally snow has come to Nio too. Still a bit shaky but happy and motivated he slips down the hill on his new skis!

Harrison

Harrison sighs in relief when he reaches the plateau. The crack in the rock is really narrow and it is hard for him to peek inside. He reaches the envelope only by the fingertips. "Unbelievable", he thinks, "that this didn't get totally soaked." Quickly he stuffs the envelope into his bag. Just the moment he wants to descent he spots something on the ground. Something moved in the bushes. With a silent sigh he resumes climbing the cliff further up the cliff.

Zach

ALLES!
At times Zach patrolls the house in the hope to find something yummy. You are probably asking yourselves: What on earth does a little Sackboy eat? EVERYTHING! Zach almost lost it when he found the home made cookies... and no: I never saw any of them after this. :)

Schaut immer wieder rein, damit Ihr nichts verpasst!

And next week we'll continue this! You should keep your hopes up for extra material during this week as well. Keep checking in so you do not miss it!

Making Of: Harrison's Leather Jacket

Das 'Making Of' davon bekommt Ihr heute.

Schaut rein, seid dabei!

Harrison was feeling cold as winter came around. Well, I was feeling that he must be cold without a pullover or jacket. That's why I made him a leather jacket. This is the making of for you.

I bought fitting material first. For 0.90 € I bought a strip of fake leather 10 cm wide. The bale is 1.40 m long so I ended up with a long strip. More I did not need.

The base for my pattern was out of a craftsbook from the 80ies. I chose the pattern for a shirt. In sewing patterns you find a written explanation of the procedure, the large cutting samples and a small sketch of all the pieces for overview. I scanned this smaller sketch and scaled it in Photoshop to get the correct size.

I first adjusted it to the correct width that I wanted to be a little over 4cm for half the shirt. This was due to Harrison's shoulder width. By scaling to the x and the y direction simultaneously the proportions remained the same. Then I thought the jacket would end up being too short so I stretched the pattern lengthwise. Then I printed the pattern.

I then added in extra space for his relatively wide chest on the front, the back and the sleeves.

I cut all pieces from the faux leather with added seam allowance. After joining the seams I worked decorative stitches over the seams, folding the seam allowances back. This was for the realistic look as well as making the seams lie flat. The biggest challenge is sewing in the sleeves with projects like this.

Since I used faux leather I worked by hand and made long stitches. If you make your stitches too short you will perforate the material.

The material has a bottom layer of black fabric. Therefore I could go without lining the piece. The open cut edges do not fray when they are cut smoothly. The material is somewhat stretchy which makes it easier to get Harrison in and out of the jacket.

I can now let him go out even if the weather is not so fair and cold or rainy. Do you think the jacket is his style?

A few weeks ago he already got a pullover and a pair of sock, handknit by me, of course.

More photos of everybody will be online on Sunday morning. Tune in, join the fun!
